The Basics Of Computer Animation Production System
The production of animated movies has become so easy, that you would probably notice that a lot of these types of movies are released more often as compared to the earlier days of animation. Nowadays, watching animated movies is not just only enjoyed by the young kids, but by adults as well. The production of these kinds of movies are made possible with a complex computer animation production system. Here, extensive research and design developed by film productions are employed to better improve its objective of bettering the industry.
Their goal does not just end with earning a good profit, but they also aim to make the entertainment world a fun and exciting place where they can bring to life the vivid colors of our favorite character toons. A system owned and developed by the Walt Disney Company, together with Pixar in the late 1980's is called the Computer Animation Production System or CAPS. CAPS is a collection of software programs, scanning camera systems, servers, networked computer workstations and customs desks. It was developed for the purpose of computerizing the ink and paint system and the post production processes of traditionally animated films.

CAPS was the first digital ink and paint system to animate films and was designed to switch from the expensive process of coming up with several animated drawings and transferring them to cels using India ink or xerographic technology, then painting the other side of the cels with gouache paint. With the CAPS system, enclosed areas and lines with the use of digital computer can be colored using unlimited palette. It has also brought forth sophisticated techniques such as transparent shading and color blending which were not applied before. The finished digital cels are composited by scanned background paintings, then camera and pan movements are programmed to a computer exposure sheet duplicating the actions of what old style animation cameras do. Extensive camera movements which are previously difficult to attain becomes alive on the screen. The sequence final version is finally composited and recorded onto film.
CAPS has the ability to provide high level of image quality even if you are using slower computer systems. Artworks are scanned to ensure 100% resolution as the final output, regardless of how complex the camera shot movements were taken. Before, it takes months or years before we get to see a new character introduced in the movie industry or on television, but now you can take your pick from a huge selection of Disney characters to Ninja characters. Even the video games for both the US and Asian setting are becoming popular in the computer animation industry. There are even special gadgets used to view these amazing animated films to fully enjoy the real vivid colors and special effects that a computer animation production system provides.
